Every chandelier, wall sconce, and pendant in our catalog starts as raw iron. A craftsman shapes it by hand, one bend and one weld at a time. The scrollwork, the drip-candle details, the geometric frames: none of it comes off a shelf. That is what separates authentic Spanish and Mexican lighting from the imported fixtures you find at a big box store.
What Makes Wrought Iron Lighting Different
Mass-produced light fixtures are made to be consistent. Every unit looks exactly like the one before it. That is not a quality guarantee. It is a limitation built into the manufacturing process.
Hand-forged iron does not work that way. When a craftsman pulls iron from a fire and shapes it over an anvil, the result carries marks of that process. Slight variations in the scrollwork. A curve that responds to the heat differently than the piece before it. These are not defects. They are what make a hand-forged piece recognizable as such.
The finish on our lighting is applied by hand as well, using a weathered black iron technique that deepens over time. It does not chip or peel the way painted metal can. It ages the way iron has always aged: slowly and with character.
This is the same approach Spanish metalworkers used during the Colonial period, when iron was shaped and worked entirely by hand because there was no other way. We have not updated the method. That is the point.
Chandeliers: The Centerpiece of Any Room
A chandelier placed above a dining table sets the scale of the entire room. Get it right and the room feels intentional. Get it wrong and everything else is working against you.
Our chandeliers are designed to hold a space. They are not small, and they are not meant to blend in. The Old Mexican Chandelier, for example, has a simple round form with several imitation candles arranged around the rim. But it carries real weight, both visually and physically, because it is made entirely from iron rather than lightweight cast materials.
The Hacienda Chandelier takes a more ornate approach. Delicate hand-forged scrollwork fills the center, surrounding the candle arms with detail that rewards a closer look. It works well in formal dining rooms, grand entryways, and any space where the ceiling is high enough to give the piece room to breathe.
For rooms with a tighter budget of vertical space, the Sonoma Chandelier offers a classic profile with imitation candles held up by simple scrolled bases. It reads as traditional without demanding a 14-foot ceiling.
Wall Sconces: How Light Becomes Architecture
A wall sconce does something a chandelier cannot. It places light at eye level, where it falls across faces and surfaces in a way that overhead lighting never quite achieves. In hallways, living rooms, and dining spaces, a well-placed pair of sconces can anchor a room as firmly as a piece of furniture.
The Toledo Sconce is our most-requested design. A single imitation candle sits at the top of an elongated iron staff, with a pointed edge at the base and hand-forged iron detailing throughout. It is spare in its design and direct in the statement it makes. The double version adds a second candle arm without changing the essential character of the piece.
For spaces that call for something with more surface ornament, the Scrolled Bathroom Sconce and the Gancho Sconce both feature hand-forged scrollwork that makes the backplate as interesting as the candle arm itself. The iron is bent by hand into curves and flourishes that give these pieces their texture.
Sconces look best installed in pairs, set at the same height on either side of a door, fireplace, or headboard. The symmetry reads as intentional. And because our finishes are applied by hand, the slight variations between two sconces actually reinforce their handmade origin rather than contradicting it.
Pendant Lights: Spanish Style for Kitchens and Entryways
Pendants occupy a specific position in Spanish and Mexican design. They bring light lower than a chandelier, over a kitchen island, a breakfast bar, or the center of a smaller room. Because they are closer to eye level, the ironwork detail gets read more directly.
The Bridgeport Pendant is one of the more detailed pieces in our catalog. Intricate hand-forged scrollwork runs throughout the fixture, and cross-hatch designs have been worked into the glass panels. It is the kind of piece where the closer you look, the more you find. The small version covers less area but carries the same level of detail.
The Minerva Pendant takes a lantern form: a geometric hook at the top, a glass-sided case, and a clean line that mixes old-world and contemporary sensibilities without leaning too far in either direction. It works well in kitchens that blend Spanish style with modern finishes.
The Bilbao and Santa Fe pendants offer their own distinct characters. The Bilbao features outward scrolls and imitation candles with dripping wax, true to the Old World Spanish tradition. The Santa Fe uses a sphere of curved iron bars to surround the candles, a less traditional shape that still reads as handmade and authentically crafted.
Choosing the Right Piece for Your Space
The question we hear most often from interior designers and homeowners is about scale. How large should the chandelier be relative to the table? How high should sconces be mounted? How many pendants over an island?
For chandeliers over a dining table, the fixture diameter should generally match the table width minus about twelve inches on each side. A 60-inch table works well with a chandelier in the 36-inch range. The bottom of the chandelier should hang roughly 30 to 36 inches above the tabletop in rooms with standard ceiling heights.
Wall sconces are typically mounted between 60 and 65 inches from the floor to the center of the fixture. Flanking a door or fireplace, they should be set far enough apart to avoid looking crowded, usually 6 to 8 inches from the edge of the frame on each side.
Pendant heights over a kitchen island or bar depend on the ceiling height, but 30 to 36 inches above the countertop is the standard range for a single pendant. Multiple pendants work best when spaced evenly at intervals of 24 to 30 inches.
These are guidelines, not rules. Every room has its own proportions, and what works in a 12-foot-ceiling dining room will not translate the same way into a 9-foot-ceiling kitchen.
