Every fall, we open up discounts on a wide range of furniture, doors, and lighting at the DeMejico showroom in Valencia. This year’s Holiday Sale runs October 21st through October 25th. We’ve been doing this for years, and it brings in a lot of first-time visitors alongside people who’ve been watching specific pieces for months, waiting for the right moment.
This post is for both groups. If you’ve never been to DeMejico, the sale is a good time to come in. If you’ve had your eye on something specific, here’s what you need to know about what’s typically available and how to approach it.
Why a Handcrafted Sale Is Different
When a big box store puts furniture on sale, they’re moving commodity product. The pieces were made in bulk, in factories, with shortcuts built in. A 30% discount on a veneer dining table doesn’t change what it is.
That’s not what’s happening here.
Our pieces are built from solid wood using the same construction techniques: mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved panels, hand-forged iron hardware. That doesn’t change whether they’re priced at retail or on sale during our annual event. The materials don’t change. The craftsmanship doesn’t change. A solid mesquite dining table that took a skilled carpenter days to build is still that table.
What the sale gives you is a lower entry point on something that was already worth owning. That’s a different calculation than buying a discounted product that wasn’t worth the original price to begin with.
What’s Available: Dining Room
The dining room category is consistently one of the most popular areas at the sale. We carry dining tables in solid mesquite, reclaimed old wood, and solid alder, ranging from smaller kitchen tables to large Colonial-style pieces that can seat eight or more comfortably.
Mesquite is worth understanding before you buy. It’s a dense, heavy hardwood with deep color variations and dramatic grain movement. No two slabs are the same. A mesquite table is also genuinely heavy. Solid construction throughout, not a hollow frame with a wood veneer skin on top. Expect several hundred pounds for a full dining table.
Our dining chairs are paired to match the tables, most upholstered in hand-tooled leather or wrapped in hand-stitched cowhide. The joinery on the chairs matches the tables: solid wood, mortise and tenon construction, no particle board.
If you’re buying for a long dining room or a commercial space like a restaurant or hotel, come in early in the sale window. The larger format pieces tend to move first.
Doors: Single, Double, and Interior
Exterior doors are one of our signature categories and one of the more satisfying purchases from a sale. These are solid knotty alder doors built with hand-forged iron hardware: clavos, strap hinges, and decorative iron grills depending on the style. They’re finished in our workshop and built to last for decades outdoors.
We offer single exterior doors, double exterior doors, and interior doors in a range of styles. Arched tops. Square tops. Multi-panel raised designs. Single carved panel doors. Each one is hand-built and finished by our craftsmen in Valencia.
A note on door sizing: most of our catalog pieces are built to standard door rough openings, but we also do custom sizing. If you’re coming in during the sale and have a specific opening in mind, bring the rough opening dimensions. Our team can tell you on the spot what will work and whether a piece can be ordered to size.
Interior doors are another strong category. These are built from the same solid knotty alder as our exterior doors. The difference is in the hardware and finish. Interior doors often feature wrought iron grills and bars rather than weathered strap hardware. The panels are the same hand-carved construction. They hold up over time in a way that hollow-core alternatives simply don’t.
Bedroom Furniture
Our bedroom collection includes beds, dressers, armoires, and nightstands built from solid mesquite and solid alder. The beds range from rustic reclaimed wood designs to more ornate Colonial-style frames with hand-carved headboards and footboards.
What sets these pieces apart from what you’d find elsewhere is the material honesty. When we say solid mesquite, we mean solid mesquite, top to bottom, side to side. No veneer over a substrate. No plywood drawer bottoms hidden behind an alder face frame. The wood you see is the wood running through the entire piece.
Dressers and armoires in our catalog are built to the same standard. Mortise and tenon joinery where it matters. Dovetailed drawers in the better pieces. Hand-forged iron pulls and handles. These are not decorative objects meant to suggest old-world craftsmanship. They are old-world craftsmanship, made today in our 30,000 square foot showroom and workshop in Valencia.
Lighting: Hand-Forged Wrought Iron
Our lighting catalog covers chandeliers, wall sconces, and exterior wall mounts, all hand-forged from wrought iron in the Spanish Colonial tradition. This is one of our most distinctive product categories and one that often surprises people who haven’t seen it in person.
The process matters here. Our iron workers hand-forge each piece using age-old techniques. The iron is heated, hammered, and shaped by hand. Scroll work, twisted bars, forged rings. These are not cast reproductions. They are forged originals, and they look different in a room because of it. Cast iron and stamped steel have a uniform regularity to them. Hand-forged iron has slight variations that give each piece a character that factory production can’t replicate.
What does this mean for buying? It means two sconces from the same pattern are not identical. They’ll be close, but not identical. We think that’s a feature, not a flaw. In a home that takes craftsmanship seriously, that kind of variation signals the real thing.
How to Approach the Sale
A few practical notes for people coming in during the sale window.
Come in knowing what room you’re buying for. Our showroom is 30,000 square feet, and the range of what we carry can be disorienting if you arrive without direction. If you know you need a dining table for a 12-person room with a specific ceiling height, or a bedroom set for a hacienda-style renovation, start there. Our team can walk you through what’s available in that category and help you understand the construction differences between pieces at different price points.
Bring measurements. Especially for doors, dining tables, and bedroom sets. A solid mesquite dining table is not something you want to move twice.
And if something you want isn’t in stock, ask about custom orders. The sale applies to our existing catalog, but our craftsmen build pieces to order as well. The sale is sometimes a good time to place a custom order and lock in the pricing.
We’ve been building and selling Spanish and Mexican furniture in Valencia for over 33 years. The sale is one week. The furniture we sell is meant to last generations. That’s the right frame for thinking about what you’re buying.
